All you need to know about Suncare
What does broad spectrum sunscreen mean?
Avene's broad-spectrum SPF means that the sunscreen protects the skin from UVA as well as UVB damage.
UVA rays have a longer wavelength compared to UVB rays, allowing them to penetrate more deeply into the skin. Whereas, UVB rays have a shorter wavelength compared to UVA rays, predominantly impact the skin’s outer layer.
What are the benefits of wearing Avene sunscreen?
All of Avene's sunscreens prvoide protection from photoaging. Wearing a sunscreen daily can prevent the effects of photoageing, which refers to the premature ageing effects on the skin caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation as well as infrared and visible light (including blue light).
Wearing a regular SPF can also help to reduce the risk of pigmentation, skin cancer and prevent the development of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin texture caused by UV radiation.
What is the difference between a mineral and chemical sunscreen?
Mineral sunscreens, also known as physical sunscreens, utilise ingredients like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to absorb, reflect and scatter UV radiation. These types of sunscreens sit on top of the skin, reducing the likelihood of skin irritation. Shop Avene Mineral Fluid here.
Chemical sunscreens are more commonly used, and work by absorbing UV radiation and then releasing the energy as heat. These sunscreens take around 20-30 minutes to absorb into the skin and start providing protection.
Does Avene sunscreen protect you from HEV Blue Light?
Yes, the Avène Intense Protect SPF50+ is a great option, featuring the innovative TriAsorb™ sun filter, inspired by the natural photoprotective properties of melanin. Providing protection against UVA, UVB and Blue light helps to minimise the risk of photoageing, skin pigmentation and skin damage.
Blue light or HEV (High Energy Visible Light) can also be harmful to the skin, accelerating skin ageing, pigmentation and promoting the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes.
