D-phenylalanine is a non-protein amino acid that acts as an inhibiting agent to enzymes that degrade enkephalins, naturally occurring peptides in the body that metabolize endorphins. Endorphins are neurotransmitters that play a key role in the function of the nervous system and are associated with feelings of pleasure. By limiting production of enzymes that brake down endorphins, the supplement can help support a healthy mood and normal functioning of the nervous system. For those who don't get pain relief from this, you need to understand it's not like aspirin or ibuprofen. There's a unique way to take
...d-phenylalanine, as I was told by one of the manufacturers. For the first 2-3 days, you take 3-4 capsules. That allows the enkephalins (like endorphins) to build up. Once you get reduction in pain (actually increase in your pain threshold), then you can cut back to one or two capsules/day, or whatever it takes to maintain the level of pain relief you're looking for. (What's actually happening is that an enzyme that breaks down enkephalins is being inhibited, allowing them to build up. So that's why it takes a few days to work.)
I've been using and recommending d-phenylalanine for 20+ years, and for everything from toothache, to pre-dental pain desensitization, to broken bones, and it's always worked for the people I've recommended it to. It is possible, however, that you might be a non-responder. But don't decide that until you try the above technique.

I have taken lots of natural supplements over the years with good results. This product is one I have to rate very good. It is said to have no medicin
...e interactions which is important to me as I take a few prescription drugs daily. It takes 1-4 days to work (as stated) and once you get enough in your system you can feel the difference. I have arthritis, spinal stenosis , herniated discs , pinched nerves and even had neck fusion with limited results so I live with pain daily. This product seems to be helping me to live with less pain and an added bonus is that I have a bit more energy and have been able to start doing things around the house I did not feel well enough to do before I started taking it. The product is cheap enough to give it a try. They also say after it is in your system you can reduce the amount you take and still feel the positive effects. I started out on (1) pill a day until I saw if I would have any adverse effects and once I saw none I began (1) morning and (1) evening. Now I have cut back to (1) at mid day and still feeling better so I would recommend a try for those who live with pain.

This product is the most effective thing I have found outside of prescription medicines to take the edge off body pain and help with calming down. It
...is most helpful when I feel both exhausted and jumpy at the same time, after a long day of pushing myself too hard. It doesn't force its effects like doctor meds do. It works more by making relaxation possible, without making me numb or loopy. It does this by allowing the body's own calming and pain relief components to stay in circulation for awhile longer than usual. Takes around an hour to work. For me, once it starts helping, it lasts 3-4 hours. With pain and tension reduced, I can focus better on tasks, be emotionally present with my family, and reclaim those lost hours every day. It also helps me sleep better!
JSYK - This is not the same as L-Phenylalanine, which helps more with energy and focus. DL-Phenylalanine contains equal amounts of both, 50-50

Good vitamin. I was hesitant at first because Im very senstive to herbal supplements. I have had crash or no mood swings. 500 mg was not too strong. I
... was perscribedstimulants in the past (20mg immediate release adderall 3x a day ) in the past and now I take non stimulants 450mg wellbutrin as well as 100 mg zoloft and 2x 500 mg D-Phenylalanine capsules. Im trying to take the less stimulant- non addictive way now. Honestly, It took me a while to see any results because my brain was used to the stimulant, immediate- release effect.. my body did not feel anything right away but I did notice a change in my test scores and motivation after a month and half. Dont forget that eating a healthy diet and exercise also helps ADD/ADHD people! Eveyone's brain works different and this has worked for me, some people may work faster and others may take more time. However, my psychiatrist said this is a safe supplement to take. Also, fish oil, B12, and folic acid is a helathy alternative to stimulate brain health. I love how this is Vegan Friendly and Non-GMO too!! I would order this again.

I have a partially herniated disk in my neck and the equivalent of calcified bone spurs up and down both sides of my neck vertebrae. This means I have
... any number of 'bad days' where my neck causes moderate to severe shooting and throbbing muscle pain throughout my upper trunk, jaw muscles, shoulder blades, etc.
I have seen every relevant specialist with no real progress, it is likely a degenerative condition with no emerging panacea - physical therapy helps only a little, and every medication prescribed either did not help or required higher doses over time.
I have found D-phenylalanine, used either alone (2000 g, or 4 pills twice or three times a day) or to augment OTC pills for pain/inflammation, to handle probably 90-95 percent of pain, without any side-effects. Although most research says to take this on an empty stomach, it seems to sit better with me, especially if I'm taking it with Excedrin or the like, if I take it with a meal. None of the weirdness that comes with a narcotic approach that has no reasonable end-game - eventually your body just tolerates narcotics better and they have reduced benefit as you go along, you will need more and more for the same effect.
