Standardized Cistanche provides powerful support against immune senescence. One characteristic feature of this age-related deterioration of the body´s defense system is an imbalance of certain immune cell populations.
How do Cistanche Supplements work?
Scientists have discovered that echinacoside, a compound found in Cistanche plant extracts, can create a more balanced immune response.
Echinacosides stimulate the development of naive T cells and lead to a lower amount of memory T cells. The activity of natural killer (NK) cells, another type of immune cells, is also enhanced by Cistanche, which results in a 15% lifespan increase in animal research.
A human study of a dietary supplement containing standardized Cistanche showed impressive gains in immune factors after supplementation for 12 weeks. Subjects experienced significant improvements, including an increase in natural killer cell activity by 11,7% and a 20,2% improvement in the ratio of CD4 to CD8 cells.
An increased CD4/CD8 ratio is considered to indicate healthy, youthful immune function.
