Product Information

Pharmanord Omega 3 Green is a plant based Omega-3 product which is suitable for vegans.

Omega-3 fatty acids play an important role in heart, brain, joint and eye health.

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid and is very important for your health. Unfortunately, our body can't make essential fatty acids, so it relies on us getting it from foods.

Whilst Omega-3 is most commonly obtained from fish, there are also plant-based sources of Omega-3. Most of us don't consume enough Omega-3 through diet alone: Adult women need around 1.1g Omega-3 per day, whilst adult men need 1.6g. Getting this much from your diet is hard enough, but even harder if you don’t eat fish.

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in three different forms - DHA, EPA and ALA. ALA is mainly found in plant-based sources, but DHA and EPA are most difficult to get when following a vegan or vegetarian diet.

ALA can be converted into DHA and EPA. To get ALA more efficiently, it is best to increase your intake of vegan Omega-3 by taking a supplement.

Why Omega-3 Fatty Acids are Important

    What is Omega-3?

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid. Your body cannot produce them on its own and so people typically obtain it through either diet or supplements. They play a crucial role in the body and are beneficial for health. There are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids1:

    1. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA): This plant-based omega-3 is found in foods like flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and soybeans. ALA is a precursor to the other omega-3 fatty acids, meaning your body can convert small amounts of ALA into EPA and DHA, although the conversion process is not very efficient.
    2. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA): This type is mainly found in fish and other seafood. EPA is known for its anti-inflammatory effects and can contribute to the health of your heart and joints.
    3. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA): Also primarily found in fish and seafood, DHA is important for brain and eye health, especially during the early stages of life.
